If you set up a company in Germany and Hire employees<\/strong>you get (and need) different numbers from the tax office. They sound similar - but they have different functions. Here we explain them simply, what is what<\/strong>, What you need it for<\/strong> and when you get it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

1. tax number (from the tax office)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

What is that?<\/strong>
The Tax number<\/strong> is your personal number for the German tax office.
It is necessary for your Bookkeeping, tax returns and invoices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Why do you need them as an employer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

    To Invoices<\/strong> to write (if you do not have a VAT ID)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    For your Advance sales tax returns<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    For the Income tax registration<\/strong>if you employ staff<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Where do you get them from?<\/strong>
    After you have registered your business, the tax office will send you the \"Questionnaire for tax registration\"<\/strong>.
    If you fill it in, you will then receive your Tax number by post<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    2. sales tax identification number (VAT ID no.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

    What is that?<\/strong>
    The VAT ID no.<\/strong> is particularly important for business within the EU<\/strong> important.
    It shows that you are a company registered for VAT purposes.<\/p>\n

    Why do you need them as an employer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

      If you sell services or products to companies in other EU countries<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      If you Invoices to business customers in the EU<\/strong> then you need your VAT ID number + your<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      If you want to look more professional<\/strong> (it looks \"bigger\" than just a tax number)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Where do you get them from?<\/strong>
      You apply to the Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt)<\/strong> - online<\/strong> possible.
      (She comes not automatically<\/strong> with the tax number!)<\/p>\n

      3. company number (from the Federal Employment Agency)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      What is that?<\/strong>
      The Company number<\/strong> you need, when you register employees<\/strong>.
      It serves to identify your company at the Social insurance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      Why do you need them as an employer?<\/strong><\/p>\n
